Is an American author and cartoonist, best known as the creator of the childr's book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He also created the child-orited website Poptropica.

Jeff Kinney was born and raised in Fort Washington, Maryland. Kinney attded Potomac Landing Elemtary School and later Bishop McNamara High School, where he graduated in 1989. He has an older brother and sister, and a younger brother.

He attded the University of Maryland, College Park in the early 1990s. It was in college that Kinney created a popular comic strip, Igdoof, which ran in the school studt newspaper, The Diamondback.

Kinney graduated from the University of Maryland in 1993, originally majoring in computer scice but switching to criminal justice in order to have more time to work on his comic.

In January 1998, Kinney brought up the idea of a middle-school weakling named Greg Heffley, who writes illustrated stories about his personal life. In May 2004, FunBrain and Jeff Kinney released an online version of the story, titled Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The website made daily tries until June 2005.

In February 2006, during the New York Comic Con, Jeff signed a multi-book deal with publisher Harry N. Abrams, Inc., to turn Diary of a Wimpy Kid into a print series.

A second film, based on Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, was released on March 25, 2011. Zachary Gordon returned as Greg Heffley.

Steve Zahn (Frank Heffley) and Rachael Harris (Susan Heffley) also returned. The film was directed by David Bowers and the screplay was writt by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah. Some new cast members who appeared in the film included Peyton List as Holly Hills among others. Kinney himself appeared in the film in a cameo role as Holly's father.

11-year-old Greg Heffley is apprehsive about beginning middle school. On his first day, he quickly discovers the ups and downs, such as the missing stall doors in the boys' bathroom and the difficulties of obtaining a seat during lunch. During P.E. class, Greg and his best frid, Rowley Jefferson, escape from a game of Gladiator and learn from their frid, Chirag Gupta, about a moldy piece of cheese on the basketball court that makes anyone who touches it an outcast and that the only way to get rid of what is known as "the Cheese Touch" is to pass it on to someone else. They also meet Angie Steadman, a 7th-grader who isolates herself from the other studts to "survive". Greg states his inttion of becoming the most popular studt in school, as well as earning a place in the school yearbook as a class favorite.

On Hallowe, while Greg and Rowley are out trick-or-treating, a group of teage boys drive by in a pickup truck and spray a fire extinguisher at them. The boys join Safety Patrol and try out for a contest that offers a studt a chance to become the new cartoonist for the school paper. Wh Greg accidtally breaks Rowley's arm during a game of tag, Rowley becomes extremely popular, and wins the cartoonist contest, making Greg vious of him. During a Safety Patrol assignmt, Greg walks kindergartners down a neighborhood street without Rowley, but panics wh he counters a truck idtical to the teagers' from Hallowe and hides the kids in a construction zone. He is th spotted by a neighbor who mistakes him for Rowley, due to him borrowing Rowley’s coat. So, he abandons the kindergarters and flees. To his bewildermt, Rowley is suspded from Safety Patrol, but Greg evtually confesses the truth. Distraught at Greg's mistreatmt of him, Rowley ds their fridship. Greg is dismissed from Safety Patrol while Rowley is reinstated as captain. Greg is replaced by their classmate Collin as Rowley's best frid. Greg attempts to pursue popularity without Rowley, but all his efforts fail.

Roger Ebert gave the film three-and-a-half stars out of four, writing "It's nimble, bright and funny. It doesn't dumb down. It doesn't patronize. It knows something about human nature."

Gln Whipp of the Associated Press was less positive, saying, "In transferring the clean, precise humor of Kinney's illustrations and prose to the big-scre, the material loses just a bit of its charm."
